1 1/2 months into this, I've learned one thing......I have to be flexible.

Not just flexible to the point that a few hours here or there are compromised, but literally being flexible with my whole day's plans being tossed upside down! I think our dogs are going crazy because they have no idea when Daddy is supposed to be home! Just this week, CC has worked 3 different shifts...and it's only Thursday! :)

I'm extremely thankful that God provided me with a job that is predictable and stable! Otherwise, who knows how we'd be managing!

  1. So, So true! Getting upset about it doesn't change the fact that it will happen. Good for you!

  2. Hi, Leah! Welcome to the madness that is the life of a LEO family! I think we need to go beyond flexible and be fluid. And yes, the only thing you'll accomplish with getting upset is creating unnecessary tension. Breath. And breath again.

There was a time when I was resentful for the fact that I felt I was a single parent. And it almost ruined our marriage--and we've been through A LOT together. After 6 years on midnights my husband is now on a more predictable shift and we're better. Much better. We even like each other again. He's been out of town for 4 & 1/2 weeks now (1 &1/2 more to go). And while it's been exhausting, I'm no longer resentful. And it shows. We can talk about things at night without snipping at each other. It's part of MY job as the Wife to keep the stress level down at home so he doesn't strap on his vest, gun and badge already stressed. Oh, we still have issues--I'm still hot-tempered and opinionated. But we're quick to resolve them now. I feel like I say it all the time but Communication is crucial!
